Mildred was born on October 2, 1920, about one mile from Prairie View, Kansas, to Klaas and Rennie Engelsman DeWitt. She was the 2nd of 4 children. She attended Luctor School but was one year short of graduation when the family moved to Denver. On May 2, 1942, she married Gerald Schra. In May of 1943, she gave birth to a son, Gail Schra. Gerald died that same year on Christmas Day. The following August, Mildred gave birth to a daughter, Gaylyn. On March 2, 1951, Mildred married Alfred Schemper and to that marriage 4 more children were born: Kenneth, Richard, Norene, and Karen. Mildred was predeceased by both husbands, her two sisters and one brother and son Gail. She has 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Gaylyn (Stephen) Proctor, Kenneth (Barbara), Richard (Barb), Norene (Doug) VanAndel, and Karen (Randy) Stephens, daughter-in-law Lois Schra and two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
She loved her family and made friends wherever she went. She will be deeply missed and has left many hearts saddened yet filled with a life well lived.
