Merle James Nelson

Merle served his country proudly as a B-17 radio operator in WWII. He flew 36 combat missions with the U.S. Army Air Corps 15th Air Force and returned home in 1945.

Merle graduated from Lakewood High School and attended Denver University before going on to enjoy a successful career in the oil and gas business. Merle built and managed several propane companies that focused on residential/commercial heating and motor fuel conversions. He worked on many important projects to include the building of the Eisenhower Tunnels, the construction of the Cherry Creek Mall and the development of the Denver International Airport.

Merle retired happily to Northglenn Colorado where he spent his time working on his house and yard. He and his wife won several community awards that included residential landscaping and Christmas lighting. Merle also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Merle is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Nelson. In addition Merle is survived by his sister Phyllis, his children, (Stephen, John, Greg, James, Bruce, and Julie), his Step-Daughter Deborah, as well as many wonderful grandchildren.

Merle will be buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery on November 15, 2012.
