She attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri and graduated from Baylor University in 1956. She majored in history and education with a minor in English. After graduation, Marilyn and three friends moved to Denver to teach school; arriving the same month as Wildon James Metz. Marilyn and Jim met at the First Baptist Church of Denver and were married on December 22, 1957 in Kansas City.
Marilyn enjoyed history and genealogy, and traveled to 60 countries and 48 states. She enjoyed playing the flute during her school years and in various volunteer orchestras as an adult. She was an active member of the Wellshire Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of 1812.
Marilyn passed away on December 21, 2014 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Wildon James “Jim” Metz; her children Gregory (Mary) Metz of Scottsdale, Arizona, Gretchen (Kent) Sandford of Littleton, and Carolyn Metz of Littleton; two grandchildren Christian and Mark Sanford of Littleton.
