Juanita Burnett of Aurora, Colorado passed away at the age of 82 at University of Colorado Hospital surrounded by her family on June 17, 2021. Juanita was born in a small town not far from Toledo, Ohio to Donald and Dorothy Day.
In 1955 Juanita married her first husband James Washam in Toledo, Ohio.
Later in life, Juanita married Joseph Burnett in 1977 in Toledo, Ohio. Juanita and Joseph had spent many years together cruising Lake Erie on their sailboat out of the Toledo Yacht Club and the Catawba Island Club. Juanita was also a long time resident of Spring Hill, Florida before moving to Colorado.
Juanita had also retired from General Mills in Toledo, Ohio after 25 years of working with the company.
Juanita had a deep love for golf. Any time she would be traveling she would stop at various golf courses along the way. She was also a great cook and would host many dinners for family and friends. Juanita was an avid traveler and had traveled throughout the United States in her RV. One of Juanita’s special highlights was when she had driven through Europe for five weeks in 1983. She even went ziplining in Honduras at the age of 75. Juanita was an accomplished painter and shared her beautiful paintings with family and friends.
Juanita is survived by her children Cherie, Jim (Elaine), and Jerry, half-sisters Connie, Carolyn, and Cindy, along with grandchildren Taylor and Lauren, and her beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her treasured friends and her cat SissyPoo.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Izzi and Donald Day, her step-father Frank Izzi, sisters Pat and Janet, brother Donald, husband Joseph Burnett, and step-brothers Carmen, Richard, and Frank Jr.
