Joyce was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her father, Marvin L. Wilkins was a general contractor (Wilkins Company, Inc., in Boulder, Colorado). Her mother Leila C. Hass was a registered nurse.
Joyce attended Boulder High School as a senior and graduated from the University of Colorado in 1952, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in music/elementary education. She taught third and fourth grade in Denver. Joyce, also, was a Boulder Tri-Delta Alumnae.
She was an active member of the American Cancer Society and a volunteer for La Cache-Children’s Hospital Auxiliary. She was certainly the fashionista and her interests included bridge, golf, travel, reading, and cocktail hour.
Joyce is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Kathy and Ray Williams, Susan and Bart Carpenter; and three grandchildren, Brandon Carpenter (Ana Claudia), Natalie Bratley (Robert), Rylie Turrentine; and great-grandchild, George Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Y. Coulter.
