John was a loving father, grandfather, friend and devoted husband, he passed on Feb 18, 2013 at Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton, Colorado.
John, 73, was a resident of Highlands Ranch. His family was with him during his final two weeks in the hospital and were with him as he passed as a result of lung cancer.
John was born in Greenville, S.C. to Calhoun Wirt Cox and Emily Rivers Marett and grew up in the small town of Seneca, S.C.. He graduated from Seneca High in 1957 and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University in 1961. He served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Crisis.
John excelled in his work with General Electric and as a general contractor. He wanted to spend more time with his family and moved to Colorado to work in construction with his brother. He retired from Calcon Constructors about six years ago and continued to work with long-time owners even after retirement. John was a member of Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
He is survived by his wife Elsie Jean Cox, his brother Cal (Kathy) Cox; daughters Dorothea (Dorie) Cox, Dina Cox, Deborah Cox (Gartly Curtis), and son Joseph Cox (Elena) and the children's mother Diane Crews Cox. Stepsons Cameron (Diane) Mars , Zane (Laurie) Mars and Forrest Mars. Grandchildren Marett, Jacob, Andrew, Leland, Margo, Zach, Kyle, Carissa and great granddaughter Alexis; Nephews Michael and Christopher Cox and four-legged companions Che Che and Clipper.
