Joan was born, Joan Pearl Poland, on March 14, 1930 in Bowling Green, Ohio. She received a degree of Dietetics from Bowling Green State University in 1954 and had married Dale F. Miller in Weston, Ohio. After moving to Centennial, Colorado Joan became a registered dietician for the Division of Aging, where she was a member of the American Dietetic Association, and oversaw the Meals on Wheels program for 30 years. She lived in Centennial until June of 2016 when she moved to Highland Park, Illinois to be near her son.
Joan was described as being hardworking, outspoken, very opinionated, and loving. Her son, John, described his mother as dedicated, knowledgeable, and sometimes a storm to be reckoned with! She was a cancer survivor and had an excellent sense of humor; you never knew what to expect from her. Joan enjoyed the walking the dogs, skiing, and cooking; she was particularly fond of reading the Wall Street Journal or any health or nutrition journal.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Dale, and her daughter, Bonnie S. Miller. She is survived by her son and his wife, James R. and Julie Miller, her son John F. Miller, CAPT, DC, USN, daughter, Holly A. Miller-Bentley, and her husband, Kenneth Bentley, as well as her grandchildren, Lindsey and Eric Miller. She is also remembered by Cheryl and Joann Pegues, who were a special part of Joan’s life.
A small graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery.
