Jim was baptized at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Western Hills, CO in February 1960, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the spring of 1974 at Peace Lutheran Church, Hastings, NE. In 1978, Jim graduated from Polytechnic High School in Riverside, CA, and then graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in December, 1982, with a degree in Marketing.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Marvin and Terri Swanson; his stepfather, Corles "Perk" Perkins; brother Douglas Swanson and Doug's wife Debbie in a tragic house fire in December, 2017; Aunts Mary Lantz, Carol Lantz, and Nadine Gemmer; and niece Amy Swanson Vossler.
Surviving Jim are his mother, Kay Lantz Perkins of Hastings, NE; brother Steven W. Swanson and wife Julie of Lincoln, NE; Uncle James Lantz of Thousand Oaks, CA; dearest and best friend Renee Riley of Parker, CO; very special cousin Lisa Blea of Bird City, KS; as well as several other cousins, nieces and a nephew.
