Jerry Roy Ford, 77, of Centennial, Colorado, passed away on January 1, 2017. He was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Zelpha Ford; brother, Karl Ford; and grandson, Paul Myers. Jerry is survived by wife, Joan Timms-Ford; son, Jay Ford (Kathy); daughter, Valisa Myers; step-daughter, Terri Eisert (Doug); sister, Lavonne Baker; brothers-in-law, Dan Hoppes (Judy) and Jim Hoppes (Ginny); 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
After proudly serving in the United States Marines, Jerry began a career at IBM which spanned 31 years and continued contract work for them after taking voluntary retirement. One of his proudest assignments while at IBM was the opportunity to support military services while living in Germany. While there, Jerry and Joan took the opportunity to visit many European countries..
While Jay was growing up, Jerry served as coach of several little league baseball teams. His love of the Broncos, travel, skiing and fishing was surpassed only by his love for family, friends and animals of all species. He loved it when Valisa, while working at the Ft. Wayne, Indiana zoo would bring home animals ranging from tiger cubs to snakes that needed extra care.
He was an avid fan of all sports ranging from football to car racing and his knowledge of the history of most sports, participants and rules and regulations was unsurpassed.
Jerry's consistent sense of humor, even in difficult times, will be missed and although he will be greatly missed by all who knew him, he leaves behind a loving legacy for family and friends.
A Memorial service for Jerry will be held at 10 am, Friday, January 20, 2017 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121 with inurnment to follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 12:15 pm. Following the committal service, a reception to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at 2:00 pm, at Wind Crest Retirement Community,3235 Mill Vista Rd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Porter Hospice, 5020 E. Arapahoe Rd., Centennial, CO 80122, the American Lung Association; or, the American Diabetes Association.
