The gentle soul of a Father, Husband, Son, Big Brother, Uncle and Friend, Jason Thomas Converse, left this world on April 8, 2023, after a brief illness at age 46. Jason’s life was lived with kindness and love at its core. His booming laugh, witty humor, genuine hugs, and compassion for anyone who needed support or extra care will be deeply missed.
Jason was born on June 21, 1976, in Billings, Montana, entering the world on the longest day of the year, full of light and energy. Montana would always be a part of Jason as he grew up on its baseball fields and rivers and he would always long for the peace and serenity that Montana provided. Jason started collecting lifelong friends from the time he was a small boy, making sure they knew that once Jason’s friend, always his friend. At Billings Central High School, Jason played football, charmed his teachers and grew in his faith. Jason’s love of music blossomed and his talent for singing was apparent.
With his passion for singing and a dream to travel, Jason joined Up With People after graduating from Central in 1994. The friendships and experiences Jason had while traveling the world and performing in the next year would impact him throughout the rest of his life, right up until his final days.
Born with a servant’s heart and the desire to protect his community, Jason chose to pursue law enforcement, graduating from Sheridan College in 1997. Throughout Jason’s law enforcement career, he would travel from Wyoming to Weld County, Colorado first as a patrolman and later as a K9 Sheriff’s Deputy. His best friend, a Belgian Malinois named Styx, worked and lived beside Jason and his family, providing them loyal protection and a bond that was immeasurable. Later, Jason worked as a K9 bomb specialist at the United States Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, where his German Shephard, Dome, was his faithful co-worker and companion.
After nearly 14 years in law enforcement, Jason chose to use his talents in the corporate world, first as a Product Safety & Compliance Manager at Cabela’s headquarters in Sidney, Nebraska and later at Hunter Douglas headquarters in Colorado right through March of 2023. He never stopped striving to help protect his community and keep them safe. His humble and private nature kept hidden that he quietly graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2019 from Ft. Hays State.
Always curious and intellectual, Jason had many diverse hobbies and interests. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Colorado Rockies, everything baseball related, football and hockey. Cooking for his loved ones, especially his famous brisket, always brought him joy. He was fascinated by history and learning about WW2, the Civil War, aviation, and politics. He studied and kept honeybees and found solace outdoors, especially while fishing Montana’s rivers. He was also mechanical and had a Harley, a Ford Mustang and the 1972 Ford pickup he was lovingly restoring. He was always up for a good meal and good discussion, winning every debate with his charismatic humor, infectious smile and solid facts.
But Jason’s ultimate passion was his family. He met Tabitha Doyle at Sheridan College, and they were married in August of 2000. They welcomed two sons, Jack in 2003, and Casey in 2007. He often marveled at his sons as they have grown, always excited to speak about their many talents as well as their very special bond as brothers. He was so proud of them both. Jason’s family was the true foundation of his life.
Jason is survived by his wife Tabitha, sons Jack & Casey, parents Sandra Converse and Tom & Leslie Converse, sister Tara Rigg (Chris): nieces Bethany, Blakely & Brielle, step-brother Tully Olson (Caroline), parents-in-law Peggy McFadden (Joseph) & Bob Doyle (Heidi), sister-in-law Angela Marino (Joe): nieces & nephews Erela, Eva, Nate, Eliana, Carter, & Easton, sister-in-law Melanie Doyle: nephews Gerrick & Wyatt, brothers-in-law Dillon Guthrie & Justin Doyle, and many friends near and far.
