On Thursday July 30, 2020, James Russell Swenson, loving husband, father of two and grandfather of six, passed away peacefully at the age of 80.
James was born on December 23, 1939 in Delavan,WI to Russell and Elsie (Mattson) Swenson. He grew up in Racine,WI where he excelled in both academics and athletics. He developed what would become a life-long passion for the game of golf. While serving his country in the United States Army in Japan, James set a course record that stood for over 10 years! After four years in the service, James went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee receiving a degree in Economics. He married Donna (Barry) on November 30, 1968. Together, they raised two sons, Andrew and Brian. He was also an integral part of the lives of his precious grandchildren, Kyle, Sarah, Annabelle, Lillian, Charlotte and James.
James spent the majority of his career at the Rexnord Corporation, where he served as Chairman, CEO and COO until its merger with BTR plc in 1994. He continued his executive role with the global conglomerate until his retirement in 2000. In 2003, James came out of retirement to serve as interim CEO at TB Woods until 2004.
While James's professional accomplishments were unrivaled, his lasting legacy will be his enduring dedication to his family. He could often be seen standing alone by the fence simply taking in the event and lending quiet support to his sons and grandchildren. He found his joy in the happiness of his family. During his retirement, James and Donna traveled extensively and forged enough memories to last a lifetime. In addition to family, James also served his church and neighbors trying to make the world a better place.
James was preceded in death by his father, Russell, his mother Elsie, and his brothers Douglas and Gerald. He is survived by his wife, Donna, his sons, Andrew and Brian (Andrea), his grandchildren, Kyle, Sarah, Annabelle, Lillian, Charlotte, James and his nephews Bret Swenson and Tyrone Thompson.
Due to the Global Pandemic, a private ceremony will be held at Seven Stones Cemetery, 9635 N Rampart Range Rd, Littleton, CO 80125. Donations in his memory can be made to the Employee Fund at Highline Place, 6767 S Broadway, Littleton, CO 80122.
