Herman Robert Welk, age 94, passed away in his apartment in Colorado Springs, CO, June 28, 2016. He was born to Max and Grace Welk, on May 20, 1922 in Beverly, NE. Bob attended a one-room school in Nebraska until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. After his Army service Bob married Elsie Stoller on June 27, 1946, at a country church near Indianola, Nebraska. They farmed near Palisade, Nebraska until 1952 when they sold the farm and moved to Denver. Bob was an experienced truck driver and, after a brief period as a Denver Tramway bus driver, spent his career as a long haul transport driver until his retirement from Gates Rubber Company in 1984. At retirement he received an outstanding achievement award for being one of very few drivers who had driven over 3 million miles without having an accident. Upon retirement, Bob and Elsie moved to the mountains near Woodland Park, CO, where they enjoyed hosting family reunions, going on several RV trips with fellow retirees and the enjoying the company of their church friends. Elsie, his wife of 68 years, passed away in 2014. Bob is survived by four children; Ron (Joan) Welk of Highlands Ranch, CO; Candace (Karl) Dreher of Parker, CO; Cecilia (Greg) Leadens of Franktown, CO and Larry Welk of Denver, CO. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. We will miss him very much.
