Helen was born on August 18th, 1930, in Colfax, Iowa to Torsten Albert and Anna Sophie Pearson. She was the fourth of four children.
Helen grew up on the family farm in Colfax, and attended Colfax High School, graduating in 1948. She worked as a secretary at the Maytag Corporation and although she didn’t have the money for college, she had a passion for learning. She attended night classes at Drake University, and later took some classes at the University of Minnesota. She also attended Northwestern Bible college in Iowa.
Helen moved to Denver and was an executive secretary at Central Bank and Trust, where she took banking courses. She met Peter on a blind date on New Year's Eve and married the following New Year's Eve, 12/31/1963. They moved to California together in 1964. While living in California, they had two boys: Peter and Timothy. Four years after they were married, they moved to Athens, Greece where they had another boy, Michael. After six years in Greece, where she raised her three children and learned how to speak Greek, they moved back to Colorado and settled in Colorado Springs.
Helen loved to cook, play golf, take long walks, garden, and attend bible studies. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was active as an Elder and a Deacon, while also participating in the choir. She enjoyed working in the church library as well.
Helen was an excellent typist and worked for Peter’s real estate company, The Hadjis Corporation. She even got her Real Estate license.
Helen was a member of the Order of Rainbow Girls and an active participant in P.E.O., a philanthropic organization celebrating the advancement and education of women through scholarships, grants, awards, and loans.
