She was the youngest of her three brothers, Newton, George and Bill.
Emily and her family moved to Somerville NJ in the 1930s where she earned a scholarship to The Scudder School in New York City.
She met Charles Edmund Durham on the NJ Central Railroad during one of her daily commutes. Chuck enlisted in the army in 1940 and was stationed on Governors Island in NY Harbor. They courted until Chuck graduated from the Officer Candidate School and were married in the spring of 1943. During Chuck’s enlistment, they were stationed in Alabama, Kansas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Louisiana and settled in Denver Colorado where they raised their three sons, Chuck Jr, Bill and Lee.
Emily worked as a secretary in the Mechanical Engineering Dept. at DU, as well as volunteering at Porter Memorial Hospital.
Chuck and Emily enjoyed traveling, camping and the great outdoors. They were active members of Emmanuel United Methodist church.
After retirement, the couple spent winters in Arizona where they volunteered much of their time at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and continued their love of bird watching.
Emily is survived by two sons, Chuck Jr and Lee, two grandsons, Bill Jr and Tim, and two great grandsons, Rylan and Jackson.
As well as her extended family, daughter in-law Nonya, grandchildren Troy and Tia and great grandchildren Britney, Cole, Hannah, Bryce and Tyler.
