Gerard (Gerry) Steiner passed away in his sleep on July 23, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born in Hampton, Virginia on May 28,1943, graduated from Hampton High School, and subsequently earned a Bachelor's and Master of Science in Oceanography and later a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering.
In 1966, he met his wife, Marilyn Engelthaler, while playing piano at a bar while on leave, and they were married months later on June 4th of that year, and shared 40 years together. During their marriage, they lived in a number of different states, were blessed to be able to travel to many others, and visited numerous foreign countries. He adored her, and spoke of her lovingly up to his very last day.
After serving for 10 years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, Gerry was employed in the defense industry--initially at Comarco in California and later at Martin Marietta in Colorado where he provided for his family until his retirement.
Gerry played the piano throughout his life--often playing at the churches he attended--and he also enjoyed composing music and writing original songs. Some of his earlier hobbies of cycling and skiing later gave way to a passion for flying after he obtained his private pilot's license. A recurring story he liked to share was about a perfect landing he made at Las Vegas McCarran Airport with a heavy crosswind, with Marilyn as passenger while numerous commercial jets waited for him to land.
Gerry professed a faith in Jesus Christ and His promise of salvation. He was loved by his family and will be missed.
Gerry is survived by his children, Craig (and his wife Franceen), Julie (and her husband Paul), Scott (and his wife Bridget); his grand-children, Keely and Rylan Steiner; Noah, Joshua, and Eli Logan; his brother Duane (and his wife Margie), and his niece Rachel and nephew Danny. He is predeceased by his wife, Marilyn, and his parents, Roy and Margaret Steiner.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 10:00 am at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary (6601 S. Colorado Blvd.).
Gerard will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery (4400 W. Kenyon Ave.). A committal ceremony will be held at the cemetery on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 9:30 am to honor his service in the United States Navy. Please meet at staging area 'B' 10-15 minuets prior to this time.
