2021 at the Wind Crest Retirement Community in Highlands Ranch,
CO. He was 94 years old when he passed. He is survived by eight
children Bruce (Cheryl) Fosdick, Susan Fosdick, Diane (David) Barnt,
Paul (Jennifer) Fosdick, Kathy (Tom) Hynes, Alan (Allyson) Fosdick,
Scott (Mem) Fosdick, and Cheryl (Todd) Ballman, his 23
grandchildren, his 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
George was born February 6, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Alexander Higbie
Fosdick and Ethel Baldwin Fosdick. He married Betty Jane Lawrence on June 10, 1950 in
Cleveland Heights, OH. They were married for over 67 years.
George studied Mechanical Engineering (like his father) at Yale University in New Haven,
Connecticut receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1948. He completed his master’s degree in Aeronautical
Engineering at the University of Michigan in 1950.Finally, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy
degree in Environmental Engineering from Colorado State University in 1975.
George’s professional career spanned over 4 decades and started with a short service in the United
States Navy as a radar technician, then focused on aerospace engineering for the Martin Marietta
Company (later Lockheed Martin) where he tested airplanes, missiles, and worked with satellites.
Of particular note was a paper he co-authored in the early 60s that predicted that someday satellites
would allow access to a bank account through a network, send mail electronically, and view travel
locations through a terminal. George also worked in the oil shale industry after completing his PhD.
George ended his career as a college professor teaching primarily aerodynamics and mathematics.
George enjoyed many non-work activities. As a student he participated in track and field and
wrestling. In later years, he enjoyed watching high school wrestling including the success of his
grandchildren. As an adult, he participated with Toastmasters Clubs including sponsoring a club in
a federal penitentiary for more than 5 years with his wife Jane. George and Jane both enjoyed
researching their genealogy and were able to trace back their heritage more than 1000 years.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, April 6 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary located at 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, CO 80121. Flowers may be sent to Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary at the same address.
