On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Gene Elliott, loyal husband, generous father of 3 kids, and grandpa to 10 grandkids, died peacefully at the age of 89 in Southlake, TX surrounded by family. He had been struggling with dementia and a steady decline in health over the last year, yet his death was unexpectedly sudden and quick. Genewas born on February 6, 1934 in Idalia, CO to Clark and Helen (Weddle) Elliott.
Gene graduated from South High School in Denver and then earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Colorado University in 1956. On January 31, 1964, he married Lois Norwood. They raised one son, Tim, and two daughters, Tammy and Tanya. He primarily worked as an avionics engineer for both Continental Airlines and Frontier Airlines. He was adventurous and daring and loved doing things outside, like fishing, riding motor bikes and just being in the mountains. Late in life, he moved to Texas, and the man may have been taken out of the mountains, but the mountains were never taken out of the man. He loved to travel (which he could do easily since he worked for the airlines), and two places he thoroughly enjoyed going to were Hawaii and Israel. Faith was a huge part of Gene’s life, and he served at various times by teaching, leading singing, and even maintaining the church’s vans and buses. He was also a generous man, helping in a heartbeat those who needed it. He was a kind and compassionate soul and loved playing games, especially with his family. He was also a big fan of duct tape and bondo.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, his father, Clark, his mother, Helen, and his youngest brother, Dean. He is survived by his children, Tim Elliott, Tammy Gray (James) and Tanya Stasey (Jeven); and by his middle brother, Don Elliott. He also has 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be a funeral service in Denver on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Olinger Funeral Home at Chapel Hill, located at 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121, with a graveside service to follow immediately after. There will be a family-only viewing starting at 1:00 pm and a public viewing starting at 1:30 pm.
