She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her mother Edna Wilson, her brother Kenneth and his wife Erma, and her father John Lowell Wilson, who died when he was thirty-four of a heart condition.
Ermal is survived by her sons Lonny (Barbra Moore) and Leo (Carol), as well as four grandchildren, Doug, Kevin, Kent and Kreg and four great grandchildren, Austin, Montana, Mckenzie and Jack. She will be missed by many friends. Among the closest were Jean Barker of Lake View, IA and Imo Johnson of Lynnwood, WA.
Ermal started working evenings and Saturdays at a candy store for ten cents an hour when she was 16. After her high school graduation she attended business school to learn secretarial skills as well as bookkeeping. After business school she worked at Central Bank and Trust in Cherokee, Iowa. She married James Ferrin in 1937 in Galva, Iowa. Sons Lonnie and Leo were born in 1941 and 1944.
Jim and Ermal moved to Wichita, Kansas during WW2, where they both worked at Boeing Aircraft until the end of the war, then moved to Denver where Jim worked at the Gates Rubber Company. During this time, Ermal worked at Viner Chevrolet, American Building Maintenance and Allison Drilling. She retired at age 67 from Allison Drilling, and in 1989 moved to Heather Gardens, a senior independent living complex in Aurora. In June of 2011 she moved from Heather Gardens to Avamere Care in Brighton because of a back injury which left her wheel chair bound and unable to do daily living activities.
Highlights:
Ermal loved to cook and exchange recipes with family and friends.
She was a value shopper and seldom bought anything that was not on sale or for which she did not have a coupon. Her refrigerator and cupboards were always well stocked.
She was considered to be a top notch back seat driver saved family members from many potential accidents.
When relatives and friends came to town, Ermal and Jim always insisted that they stay at their very small house with one bathroom.
Service and burial June 6, 2013 at Olinger, Chapel Hill 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, CO
