As a young child, David exhibited the stubborn Perry gene, he was known to hold his breath until he would pass out to get what he wanted.
His mind was fascinated by science, he had a love for animals and all things space. He was diligent, caring, and supportive even from a young age.
As he got older, his love of sports grew. He was a ferocious competitor, finding his way with football and wrestling. Even though he was passive in nature, the field of play would bring the warrior out of him. All throughout his life, David was a passionate coach that touched the lives of many young athletes. He taught them valuable lessons about preparation, persistence, and humility. These strong coaching qualities led him to a high school football championship as well as six youth football championships. He stayed in contact with many of his athletes for years after, continuing to be a guiding light for them after sports.
David loved school – he attended the University of Colorado, Metropolitan State University and the University of Colorado Business School. He completed his degree in mathematics and earned his teaching certificate. His love of teaching and coaching led him to begin his professional career as a teacher at a Denver Public School.
After leaving teaching, David found a passion that blended science and business. He followed in his father’s footsteps and began working in the oil and gas industry, fascinated by exploration. He ran his own business for many years, travelling the world in search of a successful well. He met many friends along the way and returned with wondrous stories.
Then one day on a bus in Denver, he met his wife, Angela. They would end up having four children together – Matthew, Kristina, Brendan, Brittany. Being a dad was another great love of his life. The beautiful chaos of the family filled him with so much joy. He was a great mentor, loving leader, and a father full of unconditional love. He got to live out his dream of owning a farm with his 5-acre property, filled with horses, chickens, goats, dogs, cats, and rabbits.
After his kids were grown, he discovered that being a Papa was everything. He was gifted with two grandsons, Axton and Matix. They were the reason he existed. Being the family man that he was, he offered to live with his daughter Kristina, and her husband Jeremy, so that he could help raise his grandsons. He created minds that were full of wonder and curiosity within them, just as he was as a young boy. They love animals and sports and take so much joy in the little things in life.
David was a fierce man of God. He would frequently initiate a debate with anyone about his God and the grace that he believed we received. He spent many hours in Starbucks, studying the word and finding ways to apply the lessons to his life as a father, husband, and human. He led by example and let his faith shine through his actions. This unwavering faith led him bravely through his last days on this earth.
David passed on January 3rd, 2024. He spent seven wondrous days surrounded by his loving family before he passed. The room was once again filled with beautiful chaos, as well as many special, quiet moments that his family will cherish for the rest of their life.
