David Eugene Moothart died peacefully on December 21, 2019. He leaves behind his son, Michael Moothart, and brother Dr. Richard Moothart of Colorado Springs. Preceded in death by his Wife of 64 years, Naomi, daughter Linda, and brother Denny.
David was born on November 2, 1933 in Marion, IA to his parents Dilman and Bernice Moothart at their home. The oldest of 3 sons. David was a Civil Engineer, Owner of ADG Engineering and Surveying, Tennis Player, and a Race Car Driver. Active in the Sports Car Club of America as a Driver, Regional Executive for the Detroit Region and on the Board of Governor’s for the Central Division. He was Captain of his Iowa State University Tennis Team and a Drum Major at Newton High School, Newton, Iowa
David received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University graduating in 1956 and moving to Michigan with his Wife Naomi, who was his High School Sweetheart.
He designed and built the Family Home in Waterford, Michigan in 1958 and lived there until 1981. He started Racing in 1961 in a Triumph TR3, moved to a Austin Healey 100-6 and then a Lotus 11 LeMans. He then designed, built, and drove a copy of a Lotus 23B Race Car known as “The Moodini” starting in 1965, and raced that car until he retired from Racing in 1977. A car that still race’s today. He worked in the Civil Engineering field first for the City of Birmingham, Michigan then Hubble, Roth and Clark. Moving to Colorado to be closer to the Moothart Family in 1981, he worked for Gingery and Associates, and Denver Engineering Corporation until he purchased ADG Engineering & Surveying in 1985. Retiring in 1999, traveling with his wife, spending time at the Family Mountain Home near Central City, then following his son in Vintage Sports Car Racing starting in 2013.
Visitation for David will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 1pm until the time of the Funeral Service at 2pm at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to St. James Methodist Church in Central City, CO.
