Carol Darnall of Englewood was a devoted wife and mother. She died January 12, 2016. She was born in 1926 to Earl and Gladys Baber and grew up in Cheyenne County, where she attended Arapahoe High School. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, James “Shorty” Darnall, (Oct 7, 2003). She was also preceded by her brothers Bill and Lynn Baber.
Carol is survived by her seven children: Linda, Lelia, Jim, Judy, Tim, Terry and Ron, as well as their spouses: Tom, Bev, Roxanne and Cheryl. Carol also had six grandchildren: Katie, Julie, Justin, Jordan, Betty and Lena, as well as Syd, her grandson-in-law, and great granddaughters Olivia and Corrine.
Carol married Shorty in 1944, and they had 59 wonderful and loving years together. They started out in Cheyenne Wells and later moved to Denver in the early 1950’s when Shorty got a job at Gates Rubber Company. A short time later they moved to Englewood where they lived out their remaining years.
Carol loved cooking and being active in her kids lives. She helped her girls with Home Economic projects and assisted her boys with their paper routes. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and attended her kids various school and sporting events.
Nothing made Carol happier than family meals around the kitchen table where the day’s events unfolded at dinner.
Carol was 89 years old and succumbed to a long illness. She is loved and missed by us all.
