The family of Carl Frederick (Fritz) Krueger announces his passing on Friday, August 11th, 2017. He was 87 years old. Fritz will join his loving wife of 65 years, Joan, who predeceased him in February. Fritz will be lovingly remembered and missed by his three sons and their wives: Chris [Rhea], Dave [Terri] and Andy [Megan]. "Grandpa" will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Jeff [wife Chrissy], Jim, Cody, Flynn and great-granddaughters, Lilly and Reese.
A native of Denver, Fritz attended South High and the prestigious Colorado School of Mines, where he graduated with a degree in metallurgical engineering. Following graduation from "Mines," he served in England building airfields with the Army Corps of Engineers. Having completed his military service, Fritz returned to Colorado in 1955 and continued to pursue a career in construction at A. S. Horner Construction Company where he eventually became president and chief executive. Under his guidance, A. S. Horner Construction built many bridges, dams, tunnels, runways, and industrial facilities. They were part of the joint venture building the Dillon reservoir and Roberts tunnel and, in the City of Denver, they built the Speer tunnel - the only tunnel in Denver.
During his professional career, Fritz was a dedicated member of the Associated Contractors of America where he served on numerous committees as well as presiding as president of the Colorado Contractors Association. Fritz and his company received a number of awards for quality, performance, and professionalism. He was voted contractor of the year by the Colorado Contractors Association and was recognized by the Colorado School of Mines as a distinguished alumni.
Fritz was generous with his time. He had over 30 years of perfect attendance as a member of the Denver and Littleton Rotary Club. He truly exemplified the Rotary motto of "Service above Self". He also was a board member of the Rocky Mountain Osteopathic Hospital. Fritz was a dedicated family man who rarely missed the opportunity to attend activities or sporting events involving his grandchildren.
Fritz and Joan were avid travelers. They circled the globe several times as they bounced around exploring interesting world sites. Fritz was an active guy who liked to dance, ski, play golf and visit his cattle ranch where he would travel around the ranch pastures with his favorite cowboys, Dan and Larry, while discussing ranch matters and, of course, the weather.
A celebration of Fritz's life will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 23th, at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121. Memorial donations in memory of Fritz can be made to Littleton Rotary Foundation, PO Box 143 Littleton, CO 80160.
