Our family is heartbroken to share the news of the loss of William Ball Turner (Bill) on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024. Bill lived his entire life in Catonsville, MD and was 64 at the time of his death. He attended Catonsville Senior High School and spent his life helping others. An extremely intelligent, thoughtful person, Bill could teach himself to do anything. Throughout his lifetime, he worked on cars, was a roadie in a band, even did home renovations and built beautiful furniture. Bill was a perfectionist and believed if something was going to be done, it should be done right. He was excellent with technology and built the IT systems at Believe in Tomorrow children’s charity. He was an integral part of their inaugural auction and worked tirelessly to ensure its success year after year.
Bill’s quick wit and muttered sarcastic comments made the seat next to him very popular at our large family gatherings. He liked to pretend to be a grouch so there was nothing better than seeing him crack a smile or burst out laughing at one of our many family stories. After Bill, there was not another boy born into our family for 40 years which made it understandable that his idea of a perfect day was to head out to the lake with his boat and fish.
Bill never sought attention, credit or thanks but was always there to support the people around him. He picked us up when our cars broke down, he shuttled us places, carried all the heavy things, brought his truck to haul big things, used his snowblower to clear the sidewalk for the entire street… the list is endless. This is how Bill showed his love for us although his love for animals may have been even stronger. He had many throughout his life but his cats Giz, Mo and Callie were his babies. Losing them was very difficult for him.
Bill was proceeded in death by his father Edwin Turner and is survived by his mother, Virginia Turner, his sisters Carole Crocetti and Brenda Paton and her husband John, his nieces and cousins Stacy Koch, Lori McNeil, Nina Austin, Sheri Ryder and their families, as well as numerous extended family and friends. A memorial for Bill will be held Sunday, June 16th with a gathering from 1:00-3:00 and the service at 3:00 at Sterling Ashton Schwab Witzke Funeral Home 1630 Edmondson Ave. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Bill’s name to the charity of your choice.
