On July 14, 2014, WILLIAM J. GERARDI passed away. He is the beloved husband of the late Gloria F. Gerardi (nee Hunter) for 46 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 88. He was the loving father of William J. Gerardi, Jr. and wife Ruth and Roy Hunter Gerardi and wife Sandy. He was the cherished grandpa of Julie Nardi, Joanna, Joshua, Joy, Lauren, Brooke, Olivia and David Gerardi. He was the devoted great grandpa of Lillian Nardi. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul Gerardi.
Mr. Gerardi enlisted in the in the US Navy during 1943, his senior year in high school, entering the naval cadet flight program while attending Cornell University. He graduated in 1947, earning a degree in mathematics education. Later he would earn a master’s degree in education from Columbia University in 1951. He began his notable career as an educator at the Gilman school. He went on to teach math at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and make a career in the city school system, going on to become a math supervisor and eventually principal of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He also taught night school at Johns Hopkins and co-authored several best selling math textbooks. After retiring from the city school system he accepted a teaching position at Boy’s Latin where he taught until 1987. Mr. Gerardi was also very active in his community and church. He was a tireless servant of his fellow man, an individual of rock solid integrity and heartfelt compassion for all people.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, July 20 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at STERLING-ASHTON-SCHWAB-WITZKE FUNERAL HOME OF CATONSVILLE, INC., 1630 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228, and on Monday, July 21, from 10-11 AM at Severna Park Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 110 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122 where a funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be at Baltimore National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (BPI) Foundation, 1400 W. Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore, MD 21209.
