Mary Kirby Lee

Mary Kirby Lee’s spirit left this earth on Sunday, December 30, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the beloved wife of the late Roy Raymond Lee, Jr. (Ray) and cherished mother of Susan Lee Maranto ( Robert, Jr.) and Phyllis Lee Hirschman (Michael), To her grandchildren, the late Katherine Marie Riley, Steven Lee Riley, Melissa Lee Hirschman, and Max Alexander Hirschman, she was “Gammy,” and was adored by them all. Mary was born in St. Mary’s County, Maryland in 1926, the last of nine children, and graduated from Western High School, Class of ‘44. She and Ray married in 1947; the marriage lasting 67 happy years. They moved to Edmondson Heights in Baltimore County in 1957, where she and Ray resided until 1999, and then moved to Leisure World in Montgomery County, MD. After Ray’s death, she lived in several facilities until her passing.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee worked side by side for 37 years to build the Ray Lee Insurance Agency to the success it was, and Ray credited Mary for being the inspiration behind his having the courage to found the agency and make it that success.

Family will receive friends at the Sterling Ashton Schwab Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc., 1630 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228 on Friday, January 4th from 3-5pm and 7-9pm, where Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, January 5th. Interment at Lakeview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, www.alz.org.
