On October 4, 2021, Kathleen Maybelle Carlson Bowman, age 103, joined her beloved husband, Roland Thomas Bowman, in their heavenly home. Kathleen was an 81 year resident of Catonsville, Maryland, the last 17 years as a resident of the Charlestown Retirement Community.
Kathleen was born August 22, 1918 in Carroll County, MD to Oscar S. Carlson of Davenport, Iowa and Arlene Fleming Carlson of Carroll County. A 1935 graduate of Sykesville High School, Kathleen married Roland Bowman on May 29, 1940 in Westminster, MD.
Though busy with a growing family, Kathleen was an active member of Catonsville United Methodist Church since 1940, a lively participant of the Methodist Women’s Associations and a founding member of eXtra Years with Zest, the XYZ organization. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Kathleen enjoyed Bingo nights, lively games of Scrabble, Canasta, and Pinochle, and she played competitive Bridge into her 90s.
Kathleen is survived by her five children: son, R. Thomas Bowman Jr. (Christina); daughter, Arlene Bowman Shields; son, Paul Carlson Bowman (Sharon); daughter, Emma Bowman Ghosh (Bijoy) and daughter, Donna Kathleen Bowman Meyers. Sixteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and one great great grandson will miss their loving Grandma and G.G. Kathleen also leaves Betty Livesay Carlson, her sister-in-law, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends.
Among those who predeceased Kathleen are her aforementioned husband, father, mother, and, also her brothers, Carl S. Carlson and Melvin O. Carlson (Aleatha), her son-in-law, Michael J. Shields and many in-laws from the Carlson and Bowman families.
Family will receive friends on October 11, 2021 from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm at Catonsville United Methodist Church, 6 Melvin Avenue, Catonsville, MD. A service of love and praise on October 12, 2021 at 10am at the church will be followed by an internment service at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, Mt. Airy, MD.
