John was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Albert and Dorothy Farcosky on July 15, 1961. He grew up with his family in Catonsville, Maryland, attending Saint Mark Grade School and Catonsville Junior and Senior High Schools (class of 1979), where he developed lifelong friendships (you know who you are). He furthered his education by taking computer programming classes at Catonsville Community College, setting the stage for a fulfilling and distinguished career.
John was brought up to be independent and was one of the hardest working people you would ever meet. He started working as soon as he was able, delivering newspapers, managing a fast-food restaurant in high school, running a road maintenance crew, and working in the family fleet servicing business. He began a career with ADP as an account representative for car dealership clients, installing and supporting software. He moved on to a sales position, but soon realized that he was destined for greater things. John recognized a need in the industry, took a risk, and started his own successful business developing software for car dealerships. Anyone who knew John knows that he worked constantly, day and night, on weekends and vacations – and he loved it. He was personally connected to his clients and was always there for them.
As hard as John worked, he played even harder. Wow, what a zest for life! He was a natural athlete and played football and wrestled in high school. He learned how to water ski at a young age and became an avid boater. He purchased a Correct Craft Ski Nautique and spent many, many hours with friends and family on the water. He enjoyed participating in all the water sport activities, but what he truly loved was to give the experience to others. He patiently taught and towed around countless family, friends and their kids, and enjoyed every minute of it. He grew up watching his dad play golf, and began to play himself as an adult, another favorite activity. He played at courses across the country and internationally, including a 2022 golf trip across Ireland. John never stopped his athletic pursuits. He participated in a football league in his 20’s and played in a softball league up through the end of the fall season in 2022. He no doubt would be starting the spring season in 2023 if he could.
John was a big Ravens fan and a season-ticket holder from the start. He enjoyed many home games and traveled to away games as well. He had the privilege of attending Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans and watched them win against the San Francisco 49ers.
John married Robyn Tierney in 1989 and together they started the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl tradition. This event brought together family and friends, across generations, for a fun-filled football game on Thanksgiving morning. Although the marriage ended, the friendship did not, and the tradition continued for 30 years. John loved the Tierney family as his own.
In 2004, John served on the committee for the Catonsville High Class of 79 reunion. He rekindled old friendships, and the group hosted a wonderful party. At the reunion, he connected with a former classmate, Laurie Harrison. What started as a spark, eventually developed into a relationship and a life partnership, that has been cutoff way too soon. John not only gained a partner, but also a family who he loved dearly, and who loved him in return.
John was an amazing man and impacted so many throughout his life. He was always available to help others, always had a joke (which at least he thought was funny), and wholeheartedly loved his family and friends. He will be missed and always remembered with love.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Dorothy Farcosky, and his sister, Carol Neser. He is survived by his life partner, Laurie Harrison, her children, Neal, Kellie and Emily Tyson, and grandson James McCabe. He is also survived by his siblings and their families: sister Laura and Todd Green, Joshua and Erin Davis, Jonathon Green and Elizabeth Green; brother Allan and Debra Farcosky, James Farcosky and Maria Guerrero, Andrew Farcosky and Melanie Merrick; sister Gloria Larkin; brother Tom and Carol Farcosky, Matt and Annie Farcosky, and John Thomas and Ana Farcosky; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
