Joan officially became my "mother" when Carol and I got married in 1978. But my memories of her go back way before that. Since Carol and I grew up together in the same neck of the woods (can't really call it a neighborhood; too rural) I spent many days back at the farm. We played in the summer, and could always depend on "Miss Joan" to have some freezer pops ready. When Carol and I began dating, she was always there for us, helping to convince Carol's dad that I was OK. Joan and her mother, Marie Lindner, would go with Carol and I to OC as chaperones. And after we married we would always vacation together. After the birth of our daughter, Laura, Joan became the most devoted grandmother I have ever seen. Whenever she was needed to watch Laura see never hesitated for a moment. Carol and Laura were the joys of her life.
Since we moved back to the farm in 1986, our family became extremely close-knit. However, she never tried to interfere, and always gave us our space. But when there were hard times, she was right there to support us.
Our lives would not have been complete and joy-filled without her. What a blessing from God she is to all of us. We love her and miss her terribly.

When I think back growing up with Carol and Joan as a second mom
I have such loving warm memories of such a special lady.   I spent many a night and dinners with them.  We always laughed and had such great times.  I can remember Carol and I riding her old car through the corn fields and Joan always feeding the cats on the side of the house they would come running from all directions to eat.  Joan was always dedicated to her family and her home.  She will be greatly missed.  She will live through Carol and Laura Beth.  What a super lady. I will always remember when I was young and we lived at the Salem church parsonage, I would ride my bike back to see Carol, Miss Joan would always be there and invite me in and offer me something to drink. Later on, I always enjoyed the wonderful summertime picnics that Miss Joan, Mr. Ed, Carol Bruce and Laura would have with such wonderful food and corn like no one else could grow! Very fond childhood memories and of friendship and family ties that I will never forget!

My memories of growing up with Mom-Mom by my side will always remain in my heart and mind.  She was such a loving individual and never let her family want for anything.  Mom-Mom was always a source of strength and kindness for me and I would not be the woman I am today without her love.  Although it was hard to let her go, we know that she is now in heaven watching over us as our beautiful guardian angel.  I love you, Mom-Mom.

My first memory of Mrs Chesley was when I was in elementary school at OLPH and seeing her and thinking....WOW! Carol Chesley's mommy is so pretty.
She also was always very kind to me. I'm very sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful woman inside and out.
