Elizabeth Mary Kavanagh passed away on May 22, 2021 at Sinai Hospital following a fall. She was three weeks shy of her 95th birthday. Liz is survived by children Pat Carmen (Emet), Michael Kavanagh, Dennis Kavanagh (Sheree), Janice Lent (Mike), Tom Kavanagh (Debbie) and Kathy Barnett (Bob); 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Born and raised in Baltimore, the daughter of Will and Mary Kreiner was a proud alumna of the Institute of Notre Dame. She met her future husband, Jerry Kavanagh, while both worked at the USF&G insurance company. While raising six children she took education courses at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, and became a fifth-grade teacher at St. Agnes School in Catonsville, where she taught classes of 50 or more students for nearly 20 years. After “retiring” to take on full-time grandmother duties, she returned to the work world in her 60s as a real estate agent, and was one of five principals who started the Century21/Results office on Frederick Road. She continued selling and finding homes for clients well into her 80s. Liz was known by all as a kind and generous person who delighted in helping others and was devoted to her family. She was also defined by her enduring sense of gratitude. To quote her favorite prayer, she expressed her thanks daily for “the little things that often come our way, the things we take for granted but don’t mention when we pray.” Liz was a loyal parishioner at St. Mark’s Parish in Catonsville, and a great fan of the pastor, Fr. Christopher Whatley. She was predeceased by her husband, who passed away in February 2020, and her brothers Marty, Dick, and Bill.
