Doris Pramschufer Davies, beloved wife of Dr. Malcolm Davies (CDR USNR ret.), deceased, passed away peacefully at the long term care facility at Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville Maryland in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 28,2012. She is survived by two children, her daughter, Elaine (Ann) Davies Hudson of DeKalb, Illinois, and her son, David Oliver Davies, of Dallas, Texas, and five grand-children: Michael Davies Hudson of Mt. Zion, Illinois, and Laura Elaine Hudson and Stephen Lloyd Hudson, of Sacramento, California, and John Oliver Davies of New York, New York, and Rachel Jane Davies, of Bryan, Texas, and two great-grand-children, Christopher Noah Hudson and Elaina Hudson of Mt. Zion, Illinois.
Doris Davies was graduate of Eastern High School in 1933, of Maryland State Teachers College at Towson, with a three year certificate in primary education in 1936; and a Bachelors of Science from Towson State College in 1968. She taught in the Baltimore City Schools from 1936 until January 1942 when recently married she moved with her husband to Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida for the duration of WWII. Upon their return to Maryland after the war, she devoted herself to raising her children until she returned to teaching in 1964 for several years in the Baltimore City system. In 1969 she became a supervising teacher for kindergarten and first grade in the Baltimore County Schools. She continued in this position while teaching kindergarten at Featherbed Elementary School until her retirement in 1976. Her career in primary education thereby reached its culmination in teaching others the skills for and modeling a loving devotion to the young.
After the passing of her beloved husband of 52 years in 1994, she gave herself to nature education, and organizing the music appreciation programs at Charlestown Retirement Community of Catonsville, Md.
There will be visitation for family and friends of Doris at the Sterling Ashton Schwab Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc. , 1630 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228 on Monday, November 5, 2012 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00pm. Burial services for the family will be at Parkwood Cemetery on the following day.
