Carolyn Tate Dixon, of Ellicott City, MD passed away on Tuesday August 16, 2016, wife of the late Donald Bernard Dixon, Col. US Army (ret), daughter of the late Theodore and Bernice Tate, and sister of the late Gregory Tate
Carolyn, a product of the Baltimore City School System, graduated with honors from Dunbar High School in 1957. She was one of the first African Americans to enter the teaching degree program at Towson University. While at Towson, she met her husband Donald and, upon graduation, both started teaching in the Baltimore City School System. During their 46 years of marriage, Carolyn served faithfully as a military wife, a devoted member of the Christian Church, a loving mother, and a caring neighbor while living in five states and Germany.
She is survived by her children, Donna Lynn Dixon, Dwayne Bernard Dixon, and Deborah Dixon Collier, Lloyd Dominic Collier (son-in-law), grandson Jacob Wilmore Hinrik Collier, her sister Barbara Tate Byrd and husband Robert J Byrd. Viewing will be on Friday, August 26, 2016, 3pm to 5pm, and 7pm to 9pm, at the Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home, 1630 Edmondson Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228. The funeral service will be on Saturday August 27, 2016, 11am at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church 2600 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville, MD.
