Thomas "Tom" Edward Sylva, age 58, of Castle Rock, Colorado went to join Jesus on the best hiking trip of his life on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. He was born December 13, 1966 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Richard and Lona Sylva.
He was the youngest of three children. As a young man, he did multiple sports, ran track and cross country in school. He was know as a bit of rascal and definitely a clown, which he never outgrew. During school the teachers knew not to sit him next to a certain friend or the whole class would be affected by their jolly nature. He graduated from Hawaii Baptist Academy in Honolulu.
He received his bachelor's degree from SPU, Seattle Pacific University. He loved his job as an athletic trainer for Highlands Ranch High School. He joined their team in 2006.
Tom met Missey through God's divine intervention, even being 2,300 miles apart. When they met, he was living in Washington and she was living in Texas. They courted for 10 months before Tom asked for her hand in marriage. They were married July 5, 2002, shortly after he moved to Texas. In 2006, they made their final move to Castle Rock, Colorado. They spent 23 years in love. They enjoyed: hiking, long walks, laughing together, riding Tom's motorcycle, hanging out and watching a good movie and simply being in each others presence. They spoiled their three fur babies and each other every chance they got.
Tom had a passion for life. He competed in team triathlons with his family and friends. He was all about the three "L"s: Life, Love & Laughter! You could often find him on a trail (unless he was on a motorcycle), whether on ski's, boots or a mountain bike.
Tom is survived by his wife, Missey Sylva; his parents Richard and Lona Sylva; his fur babies Stinker, Ada, and Zena; his brother Doug Sylva and his wife Hilda, his sister Karen Stiling and her husband Jeff, his brother-in-law Shelby Castro, his sister-in-law Stacey Castro and his brother-in-law Dallas Castro and his wife Loretta; and his 15 nieces & nephews.
Visitation for Tom will be held Friday, March 28, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel, 407 Jerry Street, Castle Rock, Colorado 80104.
Celebration of life will occur Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Plum Creek Church, 960 I-25, Castle Rock, Colorado 80104.
