Graduated from Palisade High School 1964
Attended University of Denver and graduated in 1968 with a degree in English and education.Later she earned a Master's degree in special education from University of Northern Colo.
Worked for the DU Law School for a year and the College of Engineering for another.

Began her teaching career in 1971 at Kepner Jr High in Denver
Moved to Littleton Public Schools at Grant Jr High, Then Newton Middle School, then Arapahoe High, then Heritage High where she retired after more than 30 years of teaching.
Sandy then taught at the Griffith Center in Larkspur for emotionally disturbed students and then finally at Plum Creek Academy in Douglas county, retiring again in 2015
Her professional life was teaching reading and writing skills to those students who needed it the most.She considered herself to be a professional educator. And she WAS for more than 40 years.
In August 1968 Sandra and Lester Houck were married at St. Vincent de Paul church in Denver and were together until her passing. She liked to bake and Les tells me she could make buttermilk biscuits that were the best he ever tasted AND she could also boil water.
Her marvelous smile and and happy words were her trademark and what her close friends remember most about her..
Negative thoughts were not part of her personality and she constantly looked for the positive in all things and almost always found it.
Sandy had a very simple philosophy about life and all things in it. Only four words long, it applies to so much of what we encounter in our existence today.LOOK FOR THE GOOD.
Sandy is survived by her husband Lester, sons Matthew and Justin, granddaughter Sophia and daughter-in-law Janet. Her brother Byrne(burn) and sister Karen live in other states. Various nieces and nephews are also in other states.
