Sandra was born to Doris June Vance and Roy Lee Lewis Sr on April 23,1946. After the tragic loss of Roy Lee Lewis Sr, she was lovingly raised in DeSoto, Missouri by her mother, Doris and "Daddy" Edward Mahn. She and her three brothers grew up surrounded by a very close extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. She attended mass and special celebrations at St. Rose of Lima across the street from her childhood home. She attended bible school with her older brother Roy Lee at the DeSoto Christian Church where her mother worshiped. On weekends, and especially Sundays, friends and family gathered at the Mahn house, on Miller Hill, for fellowship, food, games and laughter. Sandra cherished those times and always loved to share stories from those days.
Ultimately revered for her gourmet dinner parties and generous entertaining, Sandra learned to cook at the age of 3, standing on a stool in her mother’s kitchen. Her many childhood responsibilities included rolling and bagging newspapers twice a day for her family’s local newspaper route, pitching in at the Mahn family funeral home, babysitting her younger cousins, cleaning her home and always fiercely protecting her beloved brothers. The work ethic instilled in her childhood led to her success as a wife, mother, professional and philanthropist.
Sandra married her high school sweetheart, Everett Edward Dahl at the age of 18 in 1964. Despite their young age, they enthusiastically embraced everything life had to offer. Blessed with four children, Greg, Eric, Sarah and Barton, they set out for a life of family, adventure and accomplishment. Together, Sandra and Edward travelled the world, to include Central America, South America, Southeast Asia, Europe and even Soviet-era Russia.
In her accomplished professional career, Sandra worked as a Legal Administrator and was the president of the Association of Legal Administrators, Mile High Chapter. After leaving the legal profession, she managed St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Castle Rock, Colorado. In that role, she was responsible for a multi-million-dollar renovation of the church. Beyond her professional career, Sandra devoted herself for 22 years to the Kiwanis Club of Castle Rock, where she served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Castle Rock Community Foundation Board, was a Director on the Club Board of Directors and President of the Rocky Mountain District Kiwanis Foundation. In addition to her other philanthropic endeavors, she was a Foundation Board Member of Advent Hospital Castle Rock, she established a community garden in Castle Rock and was instrumental in the construction of an All-Abilities Access playground for children and served as a reading tutor at Castle Rock Elementary School. Most recently she was keynote speaker at the Colon Cancer Walk for a Cure attended by thousands in City Park in Denver, Colorado in 2023.
Sandra, “Sandy”, was a kind, loving, giving, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, spouse and friend. She is remembered by those who knew and loved her as a true “saint” upon the earth. For those of us blessed by her presence in our lives, Sandra is irreplaceable and will never be forgotten.
Sandra is survived by her four children, Gregory Edward Dahl, Dr. Eric James Dahl (daughter-in -law, Denise Kristin Dahl), Sarah Lynn Sanchez and Barton Lewis Dahl, her seven grandchildren, Miguel Alan Sanchez, Max Gregory Dahl (spouse, Britta Christine Schlagbaum), Ethan Eric William Sanchez, Eric James Dahl, II, Westley Charles Dahl, Linus Harrison Dahl, Mazzy Joy Dahl and great-granddaughter, Avery Christine Dahl.
