February 1, 1936 – August 4, 2023
Ron Musgrave passed away on August 4, 2023, in Castle Rock, CO at the age of 87. He was born at home in Indianola, Nebraska to Hiram T. and Bernadine (Malleck) Musgrave on February 1, 1936.
Ron served in the United States Army for 3 years and later graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and dedicated his career to Fountain-Fort Carson School District in Fountain, CO. In 1965, Ron received a National Science Foundation grant that allowed him to pursue his Masters degree in Mathematics at the University of South Carolina. He retired from School District 8 in 1991 with a 28-year career, during which he served as a Coach, Math Teacher, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent for Personnel. Ron also took on the role of Interim-Superintendent when the district needed support.
Ron married Barbara J. Brooks of Indianola in 1955 and they shared a loving, supportive marriage filled with over 68 years of small moments, lives touched, roads traveled, lessons learned, children raised, degrees earned, battles won and lost, and fortitude instilled. They raised their children camping and fishing in the mountains of Clear Creek Canyon and Eleven Mile Reservoir in Colorado. In retirement they avoided Colorado winters golfing in Phoenix. Together Ron and Barb achieved their version of the American dream - family, home, fulfilling work, enduring friendships, and a long, peaceful retirement.
Ron is survived by wife Barbara, daughter Diane (husband Andy) and Linda (husband Gregg). Five amazing grandchildren, Max (wife Danielle), Jordan (husband Nick), Sam (wife Ashleigh), JB (wife Kristi), and Cole, 5 precious great grandchildren: Tate, Ella, Hudson, Cooper and Noree, as well as beloved brother Gary (wife Jo) and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death is son David Roger and granddaughter Paige Elise along with parents and siblings.
For those of us who called Ron husband, father, grandpa, and friend- he was the president of each of our fan clubs, and his face lit up when one of us entered the room. We felt his strength and love as we completed the task before us. He was dearly loved in life, and he will be deeply missed in death. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00am, Friday September 1, 2023 at First United Methodist Church of Fountain. 1003 N. Sante Fe Ave. Fountain, CO 80817
