Robert William Barton passed away on the morning of Thursday, January 16th 2020, at 72 years of age. He is survived by his wife Sanna; children Katy, Ginny, Kelly, Donny, Charlie, Clayton; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers Tom, Art, and Jon.
Robert was born on October 30th 1947, in Indianola, Iowa to Mary and Thomas Barton. He attended Ames High School and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture in 1969 from Iowa State University. Later, he took additional courses in Urban Planning. He designed many business and recreational parks in the Denver area, and then worked for Douglas County as an Urban Planner and Demographic Analyst for 25 years, retiring in 2015.
He enjoyed many different activities. When he was younger, he was a keen hiker, camper, and rock hunter. During a temporary job in the late ‘80s, he became a talented cook and baker, his cinnamon rolls and pies were especially famous. It was at this time that he met Sanna, and they later married in 1989. Throughout his life Robert was known for being enthusiastic, adventurous, and stubborn. He was a devout Christian and enjoyed singing in church even though, as his wife says, he couldn’t sing a lick.
Robert was also an avid gardener and won a Grand Champion Fruits title for Gooseberries in the Douglas County Fair. He had a talent for graphic designs and sold them through his online store. With his children and grandchildren, Robert continued to have remarkable patience and was a role model to everyone around him. He was especially known for his easy sense of humor and a willingness to have fun.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him; may his soul rest in eternal peace. Burial and graveside services are on January 21st at 1:30pm at the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Castle Rock, Colorado.
