April 4, 1960 – April 2, 2023
Monty Dee Anderson, of Larkspur Colorado passed away on April 2, 2023, at the age of 62; just two days before his 63rd birthday. Monty was born on April 4, 1960, to Dutch and Betty Anderson of Castle Rock, CO. He grew up in Douglas County, living in either Larkspur, Castle Rock, or Franktown his entire life. Monty graduated from Douglas County High School in 1978.
Monty grew up in an agricultural family, which originally homesteaded in the Founders Village area in approximately 1881. The family primarily ranched and farmed in the Douglas County area.
A love of that rural life led Monty into many related activities through his life being a 4-H Livestock member, belonging to several rodeo and roping organizations, a member of the Franktown Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the past Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse, and later, a full-time deputy with the sheriff’s office.
Monty also had a desire to help others when and where he could. This being obvious to some of his dedicated work to such things as being a member of the Douglas County Fair Board for 20+ years, where he mainly worked on Douglas County night and production of the PRCA rodeo. Some of his most favorite time was spent traveling around the country with his family as an official Little Britches Rodeo and other rodeo organizations judge.
Though he very much enjoyed all these accomplishments and affiliations, Monty’s true love of life was his family. They spent countless hours running up and down the road to keep his pride and joy, Hope and Seth, doing what they all loved. Buying a saddle is cheap at the store compared to the time, effort, and dedication it takes to win one. So, the pride he had in seeing his kids succeed and win was the ultimate dream and proudest moments of his life.
Monty spent over 25 years employed by the Town of Castle Rock Water Department.
Monty is survived by his mother Betty Anderson; daughter Hope Anderson (Pete Batterton); son Seth Anderson; brother Dennie Anderson (Laurie); brother Dale/Dink Anderson (Kristi); nieces and nephews Ladd Anderson; Bobbie (Mike) Pruitt; Cole (Melissa) Ernst; Amber (Thomas) Francis; Heather Anderson, and an additional passel of kids and parents who they befriended along the way and often referred to as their rodeo family.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Douglas County Fair Foundation and designated either to the Bob Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Douglas County Royalty Scholarship Fund on the memo line. Unassigned donations will be split between the scholarship accounts.
