Mike was born October 4, 1947, in Minneapolis, MN and was the oldest of five siblings. He is survived by Kathy, Brian, Mary and Margert and his wife Chris Thompson.
At the young age of 15 months old Mike and his mother were overcome by coal gas which rendered them semi-unconscious in their upstairs apartment. It was not Mikes time yet. Mike was a resilient and determined individual that took a great deal of pride in helping raise and care for his five siblings.
After graduating high school, Mike enlisted in the United States Navy and spent four years proudly serving his country. From 1967 to 1972, Mike served on the USS Topeka. His rating was Bosenmate and was part of the deck crew, having the duty of the Captains private boat. After spending his time in the Navy, Mike ran his own independent cleaning company for 10 years.
He also worked for the Douglas County School District as the night supervisor and special projects lead where he retired.
However, Mike couldn't sit still and needed something to do after retirement, so he opened his own Hot Dog Cart. Mike enjoyed the social interaction of being around people. Mike had a huge soft spot for kids and charities. He enjoyed dressing up as Santa and handing out gifts & candy canes to young children as they came into the stores.
Mike also enjoyed being in the outdoors. One of his favorite things to do was being out on the water. He spent a lot of his free time canoeing, boating, and fishing. But when it was too cold to fish or be on the water, he had no problem replacing his fishing pole for his cross country skis.
However, for over 50 years, one of Mikes biggest passions was riding his motorcycle. He loved the freedom the open road gave him but more importantly he loved spending the time with his great love Chris Thompson. The last thing on his bucket list was riding route 66. Mikes smile, laugh and kindness will be missed by all. Rest in Peace Mike.
A celebration of life service for Michael will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #3947, 1300 Caprice Dr., Castle Rock, Colorado
