Mary A. Lenz

Mary Ann was born in Belleville, Illinois on July 13th, 1935, to Elmer and Elsie Schlueter. As a child she moved to Englewood, Colorado with her family and graduated from Englewood High School in 1954. She was married on March 12th, 1955, to Cecil Lenz. To this union three children were born, Cathy, Duane and Diane. She was married to Cecil until his death in 2012.

In the late 1960’s, the family moved to an acreage south of Castle Rock, where they raised livestock and Cecil operated a Concrete flatwork business. Shortly after moving to Castle Rock, she joined a women’s bowling league which she enjoyed immensely and formed several friendships that lasted for decades.

Although Mary Ann held some various jobs through her lifetime, she was primarily a homemaker. While her children were school aged, Mary Ann spent most her time tending to her children and helping with household and farm chores as well as 4-H activities. Later in life she enjoyed spending time with old and new friends at the Castle Rock Senior Center and trying her best to keep track of her 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 10 great Grandchildren. She was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Castle Rock.

Mary Ann is survived by daughters Cathy (Virgil) Smith of Manhattan, Kansas, and Diane (Kord) Kelley of Ooltewah, Tennessee and son Duane (Jane) Lenz of Castle Pines, Colorado, Grandchildren Jason(Deborah) Taylor of Russell Kansas, Julie (Brody) Bliss of Holtan Kansas, Skyler(Brianna) Lenz of Elizabeth Colorado, Logan Lenz of Fort Collins Colorado, Kayla Harris and Jessica Harris of Ooltewah, Tennessee; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Dennis (Lucy) Schlueter of Evans, Colorado and sister-in-law Dorothy Ferguson of Deming, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, Parents Elmer and Elsie Schlueter, and sister Betty Smith.

A Memorial Service and a luncheon will be held on Wednesday May 25th at 11:00 a.m., at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Castle Rock.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests to memorials be made to Epiphany Lutheran Church in Castle Rock or Volunteers of America.
