Marie-Madeleine Claire de La Selle Pfister (Lynn), long-time parishioner of Christ’s Episcopal Church, passed away peacefully in her home in Larkspur on Saturday, May 24.
She leaves her husband of 60 years Dr. Ronald Pfister, two daughters – Elizabeth Ann Scott of Larkspur and Claire Virginia Pfister of Scone, Australia, and two sons – Christopher Rene Pfister of Cody, Wyoming, and Peter James Pfister of Jakarta, Indonesia. Other survivors are her brother Gerard de La Selle of Paris France, and sister Sabine Cicile of Chatou, France, and ten grandchildren.
Marie-Madeleine Claire de La Selle Pfister was born in Bagnoles de l’Orne Normandy France to Germaine Edmee Billcocq and Antoine Joseph de La Selle and educated at the Sorbonne, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. She came to the United States in 1952 as a Fulbright Scholar at Skidmore College, where she soon was called Lynn by other students.
After graduation, she met and married her husband, and they lived in New York City while he completed his residency at Columbia University, after which they moved to Denver. When her youngest child started school, Lynn enrolled in the University of Denver, earning her Masters degree in French.
She was employed as a French teacher at Cherry Creek High School 21 years.
Lynn’s interests were her faith, family, friends, French culture, travel, reading and nature. At Christ’s Episcopal Church, she served on the Altar Guild for many years. We’ll remember her lovingly for her beautiful smile, friendliness and many kindnesses.
A memorial service will be held in The Sanctuary of Christ’s Episcopal Church in Castle Rock at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 31, with Fr. Frederick Meyers officiating. A reception in The Gathering Place will follow the memorial service.
The family suggests donations in Lynn’s memory be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, P.O. Box 300, Chamberlain, SD 57325 or to Christ’s Episcopal Church, 615 4th Street, Castle Rock, CO 80104.
