Laraine Louise Toms, age 70 of Castle Rock, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024 after her continued health challenges. As much as the loss of such a sweet lady hurts, the family is comforted to the peace she now receives. She was born on May 31, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Edward Kain and Bernadette Hofman Kain. Laraine married Charles Alexander Toms and they celebrated 40 years of marriage together before his passing on April 1, 2020.
Laraine will be remembered for her pillars of strength and devotion. Her strong will and resilience during her battle with stage four lung cancer, sepsis, and many other procedures and treatments made her family question if she might be part Viking. Everyone who was a part of her journey was amazed by her tenacity. Her determination against the odds began at the age of 7 with a rare condition that she was determined to overcome – and she did!
Laraine was talented in many ways, including creating costumes, wedding dresses, prom dresses, and was active in every craft. She loved to spend time gardening and designing well-laid cobblestone pathways amongst them. Laraine was a classical pianist, but at the same time loved to laugh and enjoy time with her family and friends. She would do anything for her grandchildren and her family
Laraine leaves behind her two daughters-Melissa (Brad) and Sara (Tom), three grandchildren-Kaleb, Charlie and Remy. She is also survived by several cousins, friends, nieces and nephews. Laraine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Charles.
