Died January 29, 2011
Edith Kadison was born on May 12, 1922 in Washington DC.
She was the daughter of Esther and Joseph Kadison, and the sister of Norman Kadison.
In 1930, the Kadison family left Washington DC moved to California, and settled in Huntington Park, California.
Edith attended UCLA and met her future husband Arthur Schneider at that time. Arthur and Edith were married on August 20, 1950. Upon graduation from UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, the couple moved to Chicago in order for Arthur to attend medical school. While in Chicago, Edith worked as a social worker at Cook County Hospital. Upon completing medical school, Arthur and Edith returned to California.
Edith had three children, JoAnn, Billy and Lynnellen. During the sixties, the family lived in a number of different California cities, but eventually ended up in Bel Air, California.
All three children became very involved in competitive figure skating in the mid 1960’s, and Edith took on the principal role as driver to and from the ice arena, as well as pick up and drop off at schools every day of the week for over 10 years.
In the early1970’s, the family moved to Arcadia, California, in order for Arthur to take on a new position at the City of Hope Medical Center, and Edith continued to play an integral part in the lives in the development and upbringing of all three of their children.
In the mid 1970’s, Arthur and Edith returned to the Chicago area where Arthur took on the position of Chairman of Pathology at The Chicago Medical School. With the children now in college, Edith went back into the workforce and was employed by the VA hospital in North Chicago, Illinois.
In 2001 at the age of 78, Edith returned to school and earned a Masters Degree in Social Work from Loyola University in Chicago.
Over the past decade, Edith continued to travel with Arthur between homes in Larkspur, Colorado, and Long Beach, California to visit her eight grandchildren, Drew, Cody, Cori, Phoebe, Charlie, Joel, Rebekah, Annabelle, and two great grandchildren.
Edith was hospitalized in September of 2010, and died peacefully on Saturday, the 29th day of January 2011.
