Dorothy Sandra Ellis, better known to her family and friends as "Scotty", was born in El Paso, Texas to William Herbert and Sarah Hazel Geraldine Scott. Scotty spend her childhood years in Anthony, NM and attended El Paso High School for two years. When her parents moved to Yuma, Arizona, Scotty was between her sophomore and junior years and she was crushed to be leaving behind her many friends in Anthony and El Paso. The "new girl" at Yuma Union High School soon won the friendship and love of her new classmates. So much that they selected her to be their Homecoming Queen her senior year. Following graduation, Scotty attended Stephens College in Mo. and Arizona State University where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority.
On Aug 2, 1963, Scotty married a young US Air Force 2nd Lt attending pilot training at nearby Williams AF base. With her marriage to Vernon D. Ellis, Scotty began a long and glorious journey which fed a never ending appetite for travel and adventure. Scotty and Vern had two daughters, Holly Ann, born in 1964, and Camilla, born in 1968. Scotty was the perfect AF wife and mother, always greeting each new assignment and resultant relocation with enthusiasm for the new adventure it would bring while nurturing her girls and smoothing their many moves. In addition to the many stateside assignments, she also managed to make a warm and welcoming home while stationed in Japan and Thailand. Her zest for life and her love for travel took her to over 30 countries on six different continents. Scotty was equally at ease in the company of hill tribesmen in rural northern Thailand or the Royal Family in Bangkok. She loved meeting people and making new friends. If you were a friend of Scotty's, you were a friend for life.
Scotty leaves behind of her loving husband of over 58 years, her daughter Camilla, grandson Logan, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother William J. Scott, sister Mary Wilma and her daughter Holly Ann Ellis.
Funeral services will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens on 15 Sept. at 10:30 AM followed by a private burial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
