We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of David Edward McNeil II. He passed at age 59 on Monday October 2nd, 2023 in Castle Rock, CO.
David was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Trenton, New Jersey and Pierre, South Dakota graduating from TF Riggs High School. David attended vocational school in Rapid City, South Dakota where he started his journey to becoming a truly gifted auto body craftsman. While in Rapid City he met his ex-wife and mother of his children, Peggy McNeil.
David and Peggy settled in Castle Rock, CO in 1994 where he raised his children and biggest fans, Cassie, Kayla and Adam. He recently found a new love in his life in the form of his 8 month old granddaughter, Ivy. She loved her grandpa and never missed an opportunity to grab his beard.
David never met a stranger and was blessed to develop an unmatched group of friends and coworkers. During football season you could always find him at his second home, Cap City Tavern. David, his family, and his Viking family built a special bond through cheering on the Vikings. He was keeper of the drums and radiated excitement. Depending on the time of year you would find David in either a Vikings, Rockies, or Avalanche jersey. These teams have lost one of their most committed fans.
David was the “Car Guy”, if you had a problem, he would fix it. David worked on cars and motorcycles for the entirety of his career. His dream was to buy some land and build his own shop where he could work on classic cars at his leisure. If he didn’t have any plans, you would most likely find him at work because it’s truly where he loved to spend his time.
Outside of work and sports, David was an amazing baker and cook. He loved to grill steaks, burgers and chicken for his family. His coworkers loved when the weather turned cold because that meant it was time for David to bring in his famous chili. He also made his family’s famous apple pie and spritz cookies during the holidays.
David was the definition of a dad, with his long shorts, tall socks and sketchers shoes. You knew he was always a phone call away and the word no wasn’t in his vocabulary when it came to helping someone out. He was a true giver at heart and incredibly selfless.
David is survived by his children Cassie McNeil (Kent Johnson), Kayla Coufal (Justen Coufal), Adam McNeil (Emily Bourina), and his granddaughter Ivy Coufal. As well as his sisters Patti and MaryJo and brother Robert.
David is preceded in death by his parents David and Judy McNeil.
His children have planned a Celebration of Life that will be held at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Funeral Home in Castle Rock, CO on Wednesday, October 18th at 10:30am.
The reception will follow at Cap City Tavern in Denver, CO at 1pm.
Each service will be open to the public, we invite all who have known our father to attend in celebrating his life.
His passing was unexpected and has created financial uncertainty for his children. We have set up a GoFundMe to help with the services and other after life expenses, any help is very much appreciated.
