Cheryl Roemer Bumgarner, born in Castle Rock, Colorado, and a resident of River Valley Ranch (RVR) for 15 years, passed away peacefully at her home on December 4, at the age of 75. Cheryl captivated every room with her bold energy and bright smile. She was a devoted wife to Roger Bumgarner for 50 years, a loving mother to Kent, Reid, and Ryan, and the proud grandmother of ten amazing grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly.
Cheryl was an artist and a lifelong learner. She began her art career with a Bachelor of Arts from Temple Buell (now known as Colorado Women's College) in Denver, and a Master of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She poured her love of art into every aspect of her life. Cheryl worked at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass before meeting Roger. They married in 1974 and lived in Castle Rock for 35 years, where they raised their three sons. During this time, Cheryl continued to pursue her passion for art, and many of her pieces have been displayed at the RVR Ranch House. She also served on the Carbondale Public Art Commission and played a key role in placing sculptures around Carbondale, using blocks of marble from nearby Marble, Colorado.
Cheryl had a deep love for exploring culture and language. She studied Spanish and French, completing various language programs abroad, and traveled the world. Cheryl and Roger shared a love for supporting the arts and enjoyed outdoor activities such as skiing, golf, and fly fishing - the trifecta. She had a wide network of friends of all ages and was known for throwing the best parties! Cheryl will be remembered for her unwavering desire to learn, her appreciation for art in all its forms, and her enjoyment of the great outdoors.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Roger, of Carbondale; her sons Kent and his wife, Emily of Carbondale; Reid and his wife, Laura, of Houston, Texas; and Ryan, of Eagle, Colorado. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jack, Amelia, Lane, Annelise, Julia, Lucy, Levi, Ellie, Oliver, and Hudson, who were the loves of her life. She is further survived by her sister, Robin and her husband, Dave Tindall, and her brother, Steve Roemer, both of Grand Junction, Colorado. Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, Loree and Harry Roemer, and her brother, Terry Roemer. In addition to her family, Cheryl will be deeply missed by her many friends on both sides of the mountains. Everywhere she went, Cheryl was the life of the party, with her contagious laughter and beautiful smile. Such a big personality is gone too soon.
Services will be held at Cielo at Castle Pines, 485 West Happy Canyon Road, Castle Rock, Colorado, on December 21 at 2 p.m., with a reception to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local art society or plant a tree in Cheryl's name to honor the forests she loved to hike in.
