December 13, 1974 – October 11, 2022
Barbara Ann Crowe was born on Dec. 13, 1974 in Boulder Colorado to Bob and Shirlee Snare. She grew up in Broomfield and graduated from Broomfield High in 1993. Barb received her AA degree from Front Range Community College in 1996 and later attended Metro State, studying Anthropology and Archaeology. Barb met her future husband Dave during this time and they were married in a beautiful outdoor mountain ceremony on Oct. 7, 2001. They had an adorable house in Arvada that was always full of cats – her favorite animal.
Barb had a small group of tight knit friends and she cherished her time with them. She met her childhood best friend, Julia, on the 1st day of kindergarten and they had some great adventures together – remember Rock Island, Paris on the Platte, Pinkies and The Church? They had annual trips to the zoo and spent Saturday’s skiing and snowboarding in Winter Park with the Eskimo Ski Club.
Barb enjoyed travelling and grew up spending summers in Chicago and in the north woods of Wisconsin. She went on a tour of the South Pacific during High School and was able to visit Tahiti, New Zealand, Sydney, and Oahu. Barb and Dave honeymooned in St Hippolyte and Montreal, Canada and spent the majority of their married years camping and fishing all over the Rocky Mountains. One of her craziest adventures was camping in the sand and snowboarding down the Great Sand Dunes!
Family was very important to Barb and she was very close with her parents Bob and Shirlee, Uncle Bud, Aunts Karen and Barbara, cousins Kelsey, Erik and Jeff, sister Susan, brother-in-law Dan, nephews Kyle and Logan and niece Kate. Barb was a fun Aunt who enjoyed noisy lunches at Beau Jos and holiday dinners sharing stories of her adventures. Barb loved shopping with Susan and fishing and gold panning with her dad.
Barb had the gift of customer service and worked for years at Payless Shoes, Sears and the Front Range Community College bookstore. She enjoyed helping people and that came easy to her due to her friendly, empathetic nature. She was kind and helpful and always had a smile on her face.
When Barb was 37, she was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. HD is a rare, fatal genetic disease with no cure that seemingly came out of nowhere. Barb took the diagnosis like a champ and enrolled in many studies for medication or treatment. HD forced her retirement by the time she was 40 and she spent the following years camping and fishing and visiting with friends and family. Dave never really got over heartbreak of her diagnosis, and sadly he passed away in August of 2019.
Barb spent her final years in a care facility but she would want you to not think of her that way. She would want you to remember that she was more than a disease. She was kind, adventurous and friendly, she loved the outdoors and animals, she was a very loyal friend, could be stubborn at times, and had a heart of gold. Her legacy is the stories we will continue to tell about her, the kindness we show to animals, and taking a minute to tell others I love you and I appreciate you.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Barb’s name to the Cat Care Society (catcaresociety.org), or to your favorite no kill animal shelter.
