Firefighter-EMT Andrew Jay Koldeway, of Bennett, Colorado, left us on October 2, 2024, after a sudden and severe illness. Andrew was born June 24, 1981 in Colorado to Larry and Wanda Koldeway. He was just 43 years old, and 21 of those years were dedicated to serving his community.
As a young man, Andrew enjoyed playing baseball in high school and played 1 year with Northeastern Junior College. He spent many happy hours helping his father fix up his Corvette. Working together on that car sparked his lifelong passion for fast cars and NASCAR.
Andrew was a loving husband and caring son. A true friend, he would drop anything to help others. He had the kind of smile that would light up any room he walked into, and never met a stranger, mainly because he would introduce himself to everyone. His outgoing personality and quick-witted nature made everyone who knew him, love him instantly. He was vice president of Kiowa Fire Protection Board of Directors, but his favorite accomplishment and title was dad. His dedication to his family was above all. His passion was spending time with Angie and the kids, and spoiling them any way he could. As a firefighter, Castle Rock was his dream job.
Andrew joined Castle Rock Fire & Rescue (CRFD) in February 2023, quickly becoming a cherished member of the team. His bravery, kindness, and unwavering commitment to protecting others exemplified the spirit of a true hero.
Tragically, what began as a minor medical condition escalated into a heartbreaking struggle with bacterial meningitis. After a rapid decline in health, Andrew’s family made the gut-wrenching decision to remove him from life support, surrounded by loved ones who most cherished him.
Andrew leaves behind his devoted wife, Angie, and their four young children: Harper (10), Camdyn (5), Kasen (2), Madelyn (1), as well as his mother and father, Wanda and Larry.
Services are in the care of Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson.
