William was born October 3, 1917 in Bridgeport, CT to the late John William Lynch and Mable Agnes Dwyer Lynch. He was a graduate of Tufts University in Medford, MA, where he received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. William continued his education at New York University in New York, NY receiving his graduate degree in aeronautical engineering. He also was a graduate of numerous military courses and schools. He was a 34 year veteran of the US Army. Following his military service, he was employed with the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, where he worked to establish radio communications and emergency telephone service throughout the state of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clara Lynch; second wife, Maggie Lynch; daughters, Billie Helen Ford; and Bonnie Clare Whipple; and brothers, Robert; John and Richard Lynch.
William is survived by his wife of 23 years, Frances Lewis Lynch; son, George Peter Lynch; step-sons, Lawrence Lewis; and Jerry Lewis; step-daughter, Deborah Rateau; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11 am Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Rd, Apex, NC 27502. Burial will follow the service at Historic Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Friday, June 21, 2013 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.
