William was born October 3, 1938 in Grand Island, NE to the late Roy and Myrtle Heins Enck. Upon graduating from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he moved to Long Island, NY, to take a job at Sperry Rand Corp. He devoted 35 years to his career at Sperry, developing and testing sonar and global positioning systems on submarines. He was an avid bowler, meeting his future wife at a youth bowling gathering, and bringing home trophy after trophy from his company’s bowling league. He also enjoyed genealogy, tracing the Enck family back to Pennsylvania Dutch country in the mid 1700s. He planned extensive family car trips every Summer, exploring the natural wonders of the Midwest and West, and visiting his extended family.
William was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Carol Smith Enck, and brother, Darrell Enck.
He is survived by his son, Steve Enck and wife, Julie Stetter Enck, of Cary, NC; daughter, Lauren Enck Flowers, and husband, Nicholas Flowers, of New York, NY; brother, Robert Enck of Pueblo, CO; sister, Sondra Enck Fletcher of Canton, GA; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511.
