Bill served as a Captain in the United States Army and trained with the Army Special Forces (Airborne) Division. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Military service was a source of pride and Bill wore his t-shirts embroidered with jump wings and CIB emblems every day. After returning from active duty, Bill resumed his education and graduated from NC State University.
Bill started his career working in the seed industry alongside his dad at Brawley Seed Company. Bill spent his life in sales, always gravitating toward people and giving wonderful personal service. He loved working in his yard and took great pride in having the nicest lawn in the neighborhood for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching his son in Little League and taking him snow skiing. Bill’s greatest joy was seeing his son grow into a successful businessman, husband, father, and friend. Bill derived much excitement and frustration as an avid fan of NC State football, but his favorite role was being Grandad to Bella, William & Brooks.
Bill embraced his neighborhood when he and Nancy moved to Weston Pointe. Bill served as President of the Homeowners Board, Chair of the Architectural Review Committee and as a member of the Landscape Committee.
Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy Douden Brawley; his son, Wil (Lauren), and 3 grandchildren, Bella, William and Brooks; his sister Marilyn Settlemyer (Steve) and brother Bob Brawley (Vicki); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Ann Brown (Larry).
